The Honor Group goes to Angela Madsen’s Trans Pac solo sail sendoff

The Honor Group goes to Angela Madsen’s Trans Pac solo sail sendoff which was held at the Santa Cruz Harbor on a cold July morning. This story was so compelling. Angela is an injured former U.S. Marine who has suffered greatly since her injury. She tells us that through sports she found a new meaning in life and has had the unique opportunity to row the oceans of the world. Once across the Indian, twice across the Atlantic and once around the entire United Kingdom, she set sail to row solo from Santa Cruz to Honolulu. This three month journey started rocky  due to high surf. The initial leg was postponed until the following morning and ended prematurely due to a restless Pacific Ocean where Madsen was injured and the current drifted her off the coast of Santa Barbara in 20-30′ swells. She was airlifted to safety two weeks later and over a month later her specially designed and equipped boat was rescued.

The special bond that Angela and rowoflife.com had with The Honor Group was she added photos and names of those who were killed in action from the 2010 U.S. Marine Corp 3rd Battalion/5th Marine who lost 25 Marines and also had over 200 severe injuries during their deployment. Angela had an opportunity to be acquainted Orlando Rogers when she was at the London Summer Olympics. Later Rogers was killed in action during his deployment in Afghanistan. She vowed to the family that she would dedicate her solo row to Hawaii in his honor.  Good Times!
